VdV Soundboard
Practical support when communication matters most
About Robert van der Vijver
I created VDV Soundboard around a simple truth: many of life’s hardest situations become even harder when communication breaks down.
When people are dealing with medical issues, divorce, family conflict, legal stress, or personal challenges, they often feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unsure of what to say or do next. They may need help organizing their thoughts, preparing for an important conversation, understanding what they are being told, or simply having someone steady in their corner. That is where I come in.
My background has taken me through many different roles and experiences, but the common thread has always been people, problem-solving, and communication. Over the years, I have worked in business, law-office management, consulting, nonprofit leadership, research, event work, and client support. Across all of it, I found that one of my strongest skills is helping people stay grounded, sort through complexity, and communicate more clearly when the stakes feel high.
I have supported people through medical situations, family transitions, legal stress, and emotionally difficult conversations. I understand how quickly overwhelm, fear, and conflict can make even simple communication feel difficult. I also understand the value of having someone who can listen carefully, ask the right questions, and help bring calm and clarity to the moment.
My experience with medical navigation became deeply personal when my late wife was diagnosed with breast cancer while we were on vacation. Walking through that experience, and later helping others through serious medical situations of their own, showed me how important it is to have support when information is coming quickly and emotions are running high. It reinforced something I had already seen in other parts of life as well: people need help not only with the situation itself, but with understanding, processing, and communicating through it.
I have also spent years helping people navigate difficult conversations during divorce, criminal and civil legal matters, and major life decisions. I am skilled at translating complex information into plain language, anticipating obstacles, and helping people think through what to say, what to ask, and how to move forward more effectively. My role is not to replace lawyers, doctors, or therapists. My role is to provide practical, human support so people feel less alone and better able to communicate during difficult times.
At the heart of VDV Soundboard is a belief that clear communication can reduce confusion, calm conflict, and help people move forward with more confidence. Whether someone needs help before a medical appointment, during a family transition, in the middle of legal stress, or simply when life feels heavy, I offer a thoughtful, judgment-free space to think things through and find the right words.
You do not have to figure everything out alone.
Robert also operates VDVLAW (www.vdvlaw.net), a separate service providing legal support, discovery review, and legislative research to attorneys and agencies.
The two services are distinct in focus but reflect the same approach: clear thinking, practical outcomes, and work that actually helps.

Why I Do This
I created VDV Soundboard because I have seen how quickly life becomes harder when communication breaks down. In medical situations, divorce, legal stress, and everyday personal challenges, people often do not know what to ask, what to say, or how to move forward. My goal is to provide calm, practical support so people feel heard, better organized, and more able to communicate clearly during difficult moments.
How I Help
I help people sort through complex situations, prepare for important conversations, understand information more clearly, and find the right words when emotions are high. The focus of VDV Soundboard is not on giving legal, medical, or mental health advice. It is on offering thoughtful, judgment-free support so people can communicate more effectively and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
